A carpet in a Dubai home is worth professionally cleaning about once a year, and every six months with pets, young children or a heavily used majlis. The damage here is rarely the stain you can see. It is fine sand working down to the base of the pile, where it cuts the fibres every time somebody walks across it.
Ask most people when their carpet was last professionally cleaned and the answer is usually a guess, followed by the observation that it does not really look dirty. That is the trap with carpets in Dubai, and it is worth understanding before you decide whether the job is worth paying for.
Carpets here do not fail because of stains. They fail because of sand.
The real problem is at the bottom of the pile
Fine desert sand gets into every villa in Dubai, and it does not stay on the surface. It is heavy relative to household dust, so gravity and footfall work it down through the pile until it sits against the backing, out of sight.
Once it is there, it does two things. It dulls the carpet, because light no longer reflects evenly off the fibres, which is why a carpet can look flat and tired while still being technically clean on top. Worse, it acts as an abrasive. Every footstep grinds sharp grit against the base of the fibres, cutting them a little. That damage is permanent and cumulative, and it is the reason carpets in this region wear out faster than the same carpet would in a cooler, wetter climate.
This is the honest argument for professional carpet cleaning in Dubai, and it is not about appearance. Removing the grit protects the carpet you already paid for.

Why your vacuum cannot fix it
A domestic vacuum is good at what it does, which is lifting loose material from the top layer of the pile. It struggles with anything compacted at the base, for two reasons: the suction weakens the deeper it has to pull, and the grit is physically held in place by the fibres around it.
Professional extraction works differently. The pile is agitated so the compacted material is loosened first, then a cleaning solution is sprayed into the pile and drawn straight back out under vacuum, carrying the released sand, dust and soil with it. That is the step that reaches the backing.
If you want a decent rule of thumb for the weeks in between, vacuum slowly and in more than one direction. Most people move far too quickly for the machine to do anything useful, and speed matters more than suction power on a dense pile.
The method has to match the material
This is where carpet cleaning genuinely differs from cleaning a sofa or a mattress, and where an inexperienced operator can do real damage. Dubai villas contain a wide mix of rugs, and they do not behave the same way.
- Wool. Hard-wearing and forgiving, but it holds a lot of water and it does not like high heat or alkaline products, which can felt the fibres or strip the natural lanolin. Handled properly it cleans beautifully.
- Viscose, sometimes sold as art silk or banana silk. The one to be careful with. Viscose fibres lose strength when wet and can yellow, stiffen or mark permanently from water alone, which is why an ordinary wet clean can ruin one. These need a low-moisture approach and an honest assessment before anyone starts.
- Silk. Genuinely delicate and usually valuable. Specialist handling, always tested first, and often better cleaned off-site.
- Synthetics such as polypropylene and nylon. The most robust, and the most forgiving of a thorough spray-extraction clean. Most modern machine-made area rugs and wall-to-wall carpet fall here.
- Shaggy and high-pile rugs. Not delicate, but they hide an enormous amount of grit deep down and need far more agitation and drying time than their appearance suggests.
We check the material and test in a discreet corner before doing anything, and if a rug is better treated off-site we say so rather than risk it in your living room.
What a professional carpet clean involves
- Inspection and fibre test. Identifying the material, checking for colour fastness and noting any existing damage before we start.
- Dry soil removal. A thorough machine pass to lift the loose sand and grit first. Skipping this step turns dry soil into mud during extraction, which is a common shortcut and a bad one.
- Pre-treatment. Applied to traffic lanes and individual marks, and matched to the fibre rather than used as a single all-purpose product.
- Spray extraction. The main clean, spraying solution into the pile and drawing it straight back out with the suspended soil.
- Grooming and controlled drying. The pile is set back in one direction and airflow is used to keep drying time down.
What carpet cleaning costs in Dubai
Carpets and rugs are the one part of our upholstery work that we quote rather than publish, and the reason is simple honesty: a small synthetic runner and a large hand-knotted wool rug are not the same job, and any company giving you a single number without asking what you own is guessing.
What we can publish is everything around it, and all of these include materials and VAT:
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Carpets and rugs | Custom quote, by size, material and condition |
| Sofa, per seat | from 75 AED |
| Dining chair, per chair | from 49 AED |
| Mattress, single 90 x 200 | 125 AED |
| Mattress, super king 200 x 200 | 225 AED |
For a carpet quote, send a photo of the rug and a rough size on WhatsApp and we confirm a price the same day. The sensible way to book is to combine it with the rest of the soft furnishings, because the team, the machine and the set-up time are the same whether they clean one rug or the whole ground floor.
How often should a Dubai carpet be cleaned?
Once a year is the baseline for a normal household. Move to every six months if you have pets, children who eat on the floor, a majlis or a sitting room that gets heavy use, or a villa exposed to open desert or nearby construction.
The exception worth knowing: entrance rugs and hallway runners take the sand before it reaches anywhere else, so they wear out first and benefit from cleaning two or three times as often as the rest of the house.
Four habits that stretch the time between cleans
- Use a doormat at every external door, and clean the mats themselves. A saturated mat stops collecting sand and starts redistributing it.
- Vacuum slowly, and go over high-traffic areas twice in different directions.
- Rotate rugs twice a year so footfall and sunlight wear them evenly rather than in one strip.
- Blot spills immediately, never rub. Rubbing pushes the spill into the backing and frays the fibre tips, which is what leaves a permanent shadow.
Carpets, rugs, sofas, mattresses, dining chairs and curtains are all handled by the same team and the same machines under our carpet and sofa cleaning service. If you are working through the house, the companion guides cover sofa cleaning and mattress cleaning, and curtains are worth adding to the same visit because they hold the same fine dust. Send a photo and a size on WhatsApp or get an instant quote. Every job carries our 24-Hour Re-Clean Promise.
Frequently asked questions
How much does carpet cleaning cost in Dubai?
Carpets and rugs are quoted individually, because size, material and condition change the job far more than they do on a sofa. Send a photo and a rough size on WhatsApp and we confirm the price the same day. For reference, sofas alongside it are priced from 75 AED per seat and mattresses from 125 AED, with materials and VAT included.
How long does a carpet take to dry?
Most synthetic and wool carpets are dry enough to walk on within a few hours and fully dry within the day, depending on pile depth, humidity and airflow. We control the amount of moisture used and groom the pile afterwards to speed it up, and we will tell you what to expect for your specific rug before we start.
Can you clean a viscose or silk rug?
Yes, but not with a standard wet clean. Viscose loses strength when wet and can mark or yellow from water alone, and silk is delicate and usually valuable. Both are assessed and tested first, cleaned with a low-moisture method, and sometimes handled off-site. If we think a rug carries real risk, we tell you before starting rather than after.
Will cleaning remove old traffic lanes?
Often it improves them significantly, sometimes dramatically. What cleaning cannot reverse is abrasion damage, where the fibre tips have already been cut by sand over years. That is exactly why regular cleaning matters more here than in most climates, because the grit does the permanent damage, not the dirt.
Do you clean wall-to-wall carpet as well as loose rugs?
Yes, both. Fitted carpet is cleaned in place with extraction. Loose rugs can usually be cleaned in place too, and we move to off-site treatment only where the material calls for it.
How often should I clean carpets if I have pets?
Every six months is a sensible rhythm with pets, and sooner if there have been accidents. Pet dander and hair work into the pile in the same way sand does, and odour sits in the backing rather than on the surface, which is where extraction and a deodorising treatment make the difference.
